Extending Ethernet over 2-wire Copper Networks WHITE PAPER_v1

چکیده

To improve the efficiency of industrial automation systems, many operators are considering the possibility of IP upgrades to provide centralised control/management and remote monitoring. When migrating to converged IP-based networks, acquiring an Ethernet communication framework will be necessary to provide higher bandwidths and longer transmission distances, which can require the installation of new cables. However, installation of new cables can incur substantial costs in planning, labour, and system downtime. Under hard-to-wire circumstances, or when budgets are limited, existing legacy copper-wire networks can be a cost-effective alternative to quickly deploy an Ethernet extension.

Locator/identifier split using the data link layer

The locator/identifier split approach assumes separating functions of a locator (i.e. topology–dependent attachment point address) and identifier (topology-independent unique identifier) currently both served by an IP address. This work is an attempt to redefine semantics of MAC address to make it a pure layer-2 locator instead of a pure globally-unique identifier. Such an exercise might be int...

Using Ethernet With Fiber Optic Cabling

The use of fiber optics in local area networks (LANs), such as Ethernet, has increased due to the inherent advantages of using fiber. High data rates can be maintained without electromagnetic or radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI). Longer distances can be achieved over that of copper wiring. For the industrial/commercial user, fiber offers high-voltage isolation, intrinsic safety and elimina...

Influence of an Inclusion on Multi-Pass Copper Shaped-Wire Drawing by 2D Finite Element Analysis

The size and length effects of an inclusion on multi-pass copper shaped-wire drawing were investigated. For this purpose, an experimental investigation on optimal die half-angle was conducted. Based on experimental data of optimal die half-angle, wire and inclusion deformations, drawing and hydrostatic stress of copper shaped-wires that contain an inclusion were calculated by two-dimensional fi...
